About Me

I’m Sarah Lucas, a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) based in Denver, Colorado. I work with adults navigating anxiety, life transitions, and the emotional complexities of family-building, with a special focus on the perinatal period.

I was born in North Carolina and earned my Bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Studio Art from the College of Charleston in South Carolina, followed by a Master’s degree in Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

I am a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Specialist (PMH-C) and am deeply passionate about supporting individuals experiencing prenatal and postpartum anxiety, prenatal and postpartum depression, and identity shifts related to pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood. I also have specialized training through the American Society of Reproductive Medicine as a mental health professional supporting clients navigating infertility, fertility treatments, and reproductive challenges. I understand how isolating and overwhelming these experiences can be, and I strive to offer a space where clients feel deeply seen, supported, and understood.

My Approach

My therapeutic approach is trauma-informed, collaborative, and compassionate. I use evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I enjoy integrating Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help clients build insight, self-compassion, and emotional resilience. I believe therapy works best when it feels safe, grounded, and tailored to each individual—not one-size-fits-all. Whether you’re navigating the perinatal period, fertility-related stress, anxiety, or simply feeling stuck, my goal is to help you feel more connected to yourself and more supported in your life. Reaching out for therapy can be a big step, and I’m honored to walk alongside clients as they move toward healing and clarity.

My Values

Compassion first.
Perinatal and fertility-related experiences can bring up intense emotions—grief, anxiety, anger, guilt, uncertainty, and hope, often all at once. I believe there is nothing “wrong” with you for feeling the way you do. My role is to meet you with empathy, warmth, and respect, and to help you make sense of what you’re carrying.
You are the expert on your experience.
I approach therapy collaboratively, honoring your values, identities, and lived experience. I don’t believe in rigid timelines or one-size-fits-all solutions. Together, we’ll move at a pace that feels safe and sustainable for you.
Trauma-informed and nervous-system aware.
Pregnancy, birth, fertility treatments, and pregnancy loss can be emotionally and physically taxing. I work from a trauma-informed lens, prioritizing safety, choice, and grounding. Therapy is not about pushing through—it’s about building steadiness and trust within yourself.
Both practical and reflective.
I integrate evidence-based tools from CBT, DBT, and ACT alongside deeper, insight-oriented work using Internal Family Systems (IFS). This means we may work on coping skills and thought patterns while also gently exploring the parts of you that feel scared, overwhelmed, or stuck.
A space where complexity is welcome.
You can feel grateful and grieving. Hopeful and exhausted. Certain and unsure. I believe therapy should make room for the full range of emotions that often come with perinatal and fertility journeys—without judgment or pressure to “stay positive.”
