Under the federal No Surprises Act, you have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of the expected cost of services if you are uninsured or choose not to use your insurance benefits.
A Good Faith Estimate (GFE) is a written document that outlines the anticipated costs of therapy services. It includes:
The cost per session
An estimate of the total cost of services (based on your anticipated treatment plan)
Any other expected fees
Because therapy is individualized, the total number of sessions will depend on your goals and progress. The estimate reflects what we reasonably expect at the start of treatment.
You are entitled to a Good Faith Estimate if:
You do not have insurance
You are not using your insurance benefits
You are paying privately for services
You may request a Good Faith Estimate at any time before or during treatment.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate at least 1 business day before your first scheduled service.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the charge.
You can initiate a dispute through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
